Create an ID.me account with the IRS

STEP-BY-STEP WALKTHROUGH
- GO TO THE IRS SIGN-IN PAGE
Visit: https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
Click “Sign in to your Online Account,” then choose “Create an account.” You will be redirected to ID.me. - BEGIN YOUR ID.me REGISTRATION
Click “Create an ID.me account.” Enter your email and choose a password. Check your email and click the verification link. - SET UP MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (MFA)
Choose how you want to receive security codes: text message, phone call, or authentication app. Enter the code you receive to continue. - VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY
You will need one of the following: Driver’s License, State ID, or Passport. You’ll be prompted to take a photo of the front, the back, and a selfie. - ENTER PERSONAL INFORMATION
Confirm your full name, date of birth, Social Security number, and address. This must match IRS records. - ALLOW ID.me TO SHARE YOUR VERIFIED IDENTITY
Click “Allow” when prompted so the IRS can receive your verification. - ACCESS YOUR IRS ONLINE ACCOUNT
Once complete, you’ll be redirected back to the IRS website where you can view balances, payments, refund status, notices, transcripts, estimated payments, child tax credit info, adjustments or offsets, and more.
